Everything You Need to Know About Buying Adahi Animals in Qatar This Eid

0

Qatar’s Ministry of Commerce and Industry has launched the National Adahi Animal Initiative 2026. Sheep available at QAR 1,000 across 6 locations and via the Widam app until May 30. Full guide inside.

Eid Al Adha is days away, and if you are a Qatari citizen looking to get your Adahi animal sorted, Qatar’s government has made it easier and more affordable than ever.

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry, in coordination with the Ministry of Municipality, officially launched the National Initiative to Encourage Local Production and Support Adahi Animals for 1447 AH today, May 21, 2026. The sale runs until the fourth day of Tashreeq, which falls on May 30, 2026.

Here is everything you need to know before you head out or log on.

What Is the Adahi Initiative?

Every year before Eid Al Adha, the Qatari government steps in to make sure citizens can access quality sacrificial animals at fair, subsidized prices. This initiative supports local sheep farmers while also keeping costs manageable for families.

Eid Al Adha, known as the Festival of Sacrifice, commemorates Prophet Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice his son in obedience to Allah’s command. Muslims who can afford it perform Qurbani, the ritual sacrifice of an animal such as a sheep, goat, or cow, with the meat divided into three parts: one for the family, one for relatives and friends, and one for those in need.

Eid Al Adha 2026 in Qatar is expected to fall on May 27, corresponding to 10 Dhul Hijjah 1447 in the Islamic calendar.

The Price: What Will It Cost You?

Both locally bred sheep and imported sheep are priced at QAR 1,000 each under this initiative.

On top of that, slaughtering, cutting, packaging, and loading fees come to a flat QAR 50, broken down as:

  • QAR 16 for slaughtering, cutting, and packaging
  • QAR 34 for loading

These are paid through separate vouchers at the time of collection.

Who Can Buy?

This initiative is open to Qatari citizens only, with two conditions:

  • One Adahi animal per Qatari ID card
  • The buyer must be at least 18 years old

Where to Get Your Adahi Animal

The Ministry of Municipality coordinated with Widam Food Company and the Ministry of Commerce and Industry within the framework of an initiative to encourage local sheep production, purchasing breeders’ produce at competitive prices and supporting participants with free concentrated feed.

Adahi animals are available at Widam Food Company’s livestock yards across six locations:

  • Al Shamal
  • Al Khor
  • Umm Salal
  • Al Wakrah
  • Al Shahaniya
  • Abu Nakhla

Can’t make it in person? You can also order directly through the Widam Food Company mobile application with no queues and no stress.

Don’t Need It Slaughtered Right Away?

Here is a detail that many people miss. If you are not ready to slaughter immediately, you have time. Citizens who purchase their Adahi animal under this initiative can use the slaughtering, cutting, and packaging voucher any time up until the end of December 2026.

That gives you flexibility if you are traveling for Eid, hosting a later gathering, or simply want to plan around your schedule.

Why This Initiative Matters

Qatar’s push to support local production is not just about affordability. The Ministry explained that it prepared early for the season by implementing a comprehensive operational plan aimed at ensuring the availability of sacrificial animals in sufficient quantities, enhancing the smooth flow of supply, and balancing supply and demand.

The Ministry of Municipality affirmed that the current stock of local sheep, along with the quantities supplied and imported according to the approved plan for the season, is sufficient to cover market needs during Eid Al Adha.

This means no shortages, no inflated prices from private sellers, and no last-minute scramble.

A Few Things To Know Before You Book

Friday sells out first. Friday 29 May brunch slots at Raffles, Fairmont, and the Waldorf will go fast. WhatsApp is often quicker than calling during Eid week.

Enhanced packages are usually worth it. At most venues the enhanced tier adds upgraded beverages and sometimes a wider menu selection. For a full three-hour brunch, the extra QAR 100 is worth it.

Check child age brackets. Four Seasons Hotel Doha prices children 5 to 11 years. Sheraton prices children 6 to 12 years. Always confirm when booking.

Smart casual is the minimum. Eid weekend means everyone is dressed up. Plan your outfit ahead.

Team Qatar will make its debut at the iconic 24 Hours of Le Mans from 10 to 14 June, marking a landmark moment for Qatari motorsport as the nation takes its place on the grid of one of the world’s most prestigious and demanding races.

The programme is delivered through a strategic partnership between Qatar Motor and Motorcycle Federation (QMMF) and Iron Lynx, alongside a collaboration with Mercedes-AMG Motorsport, with Team Qatar set to compete in the LMGT3 category aboard the Mercedes-AMG Motorsport LMGT3.

Taking place from 13 to 14 June at Circuit de la Sarthe in Le Mans, France, the 24 Hours of Le Mans stands as the pinnacle event of endurance racing and the centerpiece of the FIA World Endurance Championship calendar. First held in 1923, the race tests drivers, teams, and manufacturers across an uninterrupted 24 hour contest where speed, reliability, strategy, and endurance determine success.

At the season opener in Barcelona, Abdulla Al Khelaifi earned Most Valuable Driver honours after leading the race for more than seventy percent of the event before Team Qatar ultimately secured fourth position.

The Team Qatar lineup for Le Mans brings together Qatari driver Abdulla Al Khelaifi alongside Julian Hanses and Giuliano Alesi, combining international endurance racing experience with local talent on motorsport’s biggest stage.

The Story Behind Astro

Astro was born in a single car garage in Al Wakrah. What started as a passion project around one Porsche 911 GT3 RS grew into something much bigger. Drive it, detail it, store it, repeat. That ritual became a community, the community needed a home, and that home became Astro Home Base.

A 4,000 sqm underground facility in Al Bidda, built by enthusiasts, for enthusiasts. Founded in 2020, Astro Automotive Services now serves members around the clock, with specialists trained across every high-end and classic marque you can think of.

Astroworld Vol.001 is the first time the public gets to step inside that world.

Why You Should Go

If you love cars, this is a must. If you are just looking for something genuinely different to do in Doha this May or June, this is still a must. Cars, coffee, culture, and a space that has real personality behind it. Not a corporate showcase. Not a mall pop-up. Something that actually means something.

Entry is QAR 75 and includes a coffee, which makes sense given that Astro Home Base is also home to Roots, their in-house specialty coffee roaster you may recognise from the race livery.
