Qatar National Library Events August 2026: Free Classes, Workshops and Meetups for Everyone
Here is something most people living in Qatar do not know: Qatar National Library is not just a place to borrow books. With one library card and a Qatar ID, it is essentially a free community centre with something happening nearly every single day, from kids’ science shows and chess clubs to startup mentoring with Qatar Development Bank and career coaching from Education City alumni.
August 2026 is one of the most packed months in QNL’s calendar, with dozens of events running across the summer before the new school year begins. This is the complete guide to everything happening, when it is, and how to join.
How to Get a QNL Library Card
If you do not already have a QNL membership, getting one is straightforward. All you need is your Qatar ID. Walk into Qatar National Library in Education City or visit qnl.qa to register. Once you have your library card, all of the events below are accessible, most of them completely free of charge.
Summer Camp at Qatar National Library 2026
Qatar National Library’s Seventh Summer Camp is running throughout August and covers an impressive range of activities for children and young adults across science, arts, culture and reading.
Summer Camp: Genomics (August 2): An educational adventure into the world of genomics for children and young adults. One of the most unique science experiences available for children in Doha this summer.
Summer Camp: Storytime for Children (August 9 and August 10): Bilingual storytime sessions in both English and Arabic for young readers. The August 9 English session runs from 11 AM to 12:30 PM and the August 10 Arabic session runs at the same time.
Year of Culture 2026: Storytime (August 9 and August 10): Special storytime sessions celebrating the Qatar-Canada-Mexico Year of Culture 2026, exploring themes of friendship, imagination and cultural discovery. Both sessions run at 4 PM.
Year of Culture 2026: Make with Me (August 11): A craft-making and art creation session for children aged 3 to 11, running from 11 AM to 1 PM. Creative, hands-on and completely free.
Summer Camp: STEM (August 12): Science, technology, engineering and maths activities for children and young adults, running 11 AM to 1 PM.
Year of Culture 2026: Creative Kids (August 12): Art session combining handcrafts and creative art-making for children aged 3 to 11, running 1 PM to 3 PM.
Summer Camp: Astronomical Phenomena in the Solar System (August 13): Arabic-language session exploring space and the solar system, 11 AM to 1 PM.
The WOW in Science at the Library (August 26): A live science show in English packed with discovery, excitement and hands-on demonstrations. Runs 4:30 PM to 6:30 PM. One of the most engaging children’s events on the August calendar.
Kids Storytime Sessions: Weekly at QNL
Storytime for Children sessions in Arabic run every Monday at 4 PM and are open to children aged 7 to 10. Sessions are running on August 17, August 24 and August 31. Each session runs from 4 PM to 4:30 PM and brings stories to life in an engaging and imaginative way.
Summer Reading Challenge
In partnership with the Kutubee Interactive Reading Platform, QNL is running a Summer Reading Challenge throughout July and August 2026 to prevent the “summer slide” of reduced reading during school holidays. Available in both Arabic and English, it is a free way to keep children reading and engaged through the summer. The challenge kicked off July 1 and continues through August.
Language Exchange Meetups
The Languages Exchange meetup happens every second and fourth Wednesday of each month at QNL from 4:30 PM to 6:30 PM. In August that means August 12 and August 26. The meetup is open to anyone who wants to learn, practise or exchange languages, whether you are a native speaker or a beginner. It is a genuinely friendly, multicultural space and one of the most consistently popular community events at QNL.
Chess for All: Weekly Sessions
Did you know that chess improves memory, problem-solving and IQ? QNL runs a weekly chess meetup every Thursday from 3 PM to 6 PM, open to all ages and skill levels. In August, sessions run on August 13, August 20 and August 27. Whether you play competitively or have never touched a chess board in your life, you are welcome.
Creative Threads: Weekly Meetup
Every Thursday morning from 10 AM to noon, the Creative Threads gathering welcomes anyone with a passion for threads and textile art to work on their projects together. Running August 13, August 20 and August 27.
Startup 101 with Qatar Development Bank (August 15)
One of the most practically valuable events on the August calendar. On August 15 from 12:30 PM to 3 PM, Qatar Development Bank joins QNL for a session called “Startup 101: Turning Ideas into Startups.” If you have a business idea but are not sure how to move forward, this is a structured, practical session covering exactly how to turn an idea into a viable business in Qatar. Available in Arabic and English, open to anyone with a library card.
The Murshidi Program: Academic and Career Mentoring (August 22 and August 29)
Qatar National Library’s Murshidi mentorship program connects participants with leading minds from Education City, its distinguished alumni network and other institutions across Qatar. Two sessions run in August: August 22 from 10 AM to 1 PM, and August 29 from 10 AM to 1 PM. If you are a student or young professional thinking about your academic or career path, this is a genuinely valuable opportunity and it is free.
Ready for School Initiative: Preparing Children for the New Year
With the school year starting on August 30, QNL is running a series of workshops for parents, caregivers and children to prepare for the transition back to school.
Social and Emotional Preparedness (August 24, online): An online workshop for parents and teachers supporting children aged 3 to 6 through the transition to school. 10 AM to 11:30 AM in Arabic.
You Are the First Teacher (August 25): A workshop on the foundational role parents play in their child’s early development and school readiness. 10 AM to 11:30 AM in Arabic.
Small Skills, Big Beginnings (August 26 and August 27): Interactive workshops for parents and children together, exploring the practical skills needed for a confident start to school. Running on both August 26 (4:30 PM) and August 27 (noon) in Arabic.
Art Majlis: Monthly Creative Meetup (August 18)
On the third Tuesday of every month, QNL hosts Art Majlis, a creative gathering for artists of all disciplines to work on their projects together and share their passion for art. August session runs August 18 from 4 PM to 7 PM. In Arabic and English, open to anyone.
Together on the Journey: Parents and Caregivers of People with Disabilities (August 25)
A monthly meetup held on the last Tuesday of every month from 5 PM to 6:30 PM, specifically for parents and caregivers of people with disabilities. A supportive, welcoming space to connect, share experiences and exchange resources in Arabic and English. August session runs August 25.
Cultural Mosaic: Let’s Talk Cultures (August 25)
An interactive cultural exchange session bringing people from diverse backgrounds together to explore and discuss culture in an open, engaging space. August 25, 5 PM to 6:30 PM in Arabic and English.
Chat and Plant: Gardening Meetup (August 29)
The monthly Chat and Plant meetup on the last Saturday of every month is for plant lovers, urban gardening enthusiasts and anyone interested in sustainability. Whether you are a complete beginner or an experienced grower, the August session on August 29 from 3:30 PM to 5:30 PM is a friendly, knowledge-sharing gathering for anyone who wants to learn more about plants and connect with like-minded people.
Book Chat with Ruby Kapoor (August 29)
On August 29 from 4 PM to 6 PM, join author Ruby Kapoor for a Book Chat workshop centred around her book “Let’s Talk About Life,” a reflective handbook and journal on peace, positive thinking and personal growth. In English.
Gulf History Lecture Series (August 31)
On August 31 from 5:30 PM to 7 PM, QNL hosts a lecture on aspects of Qatar’s and the Gulf’s political history between 1893 and 1913, drawing on Arabic and French letters that document the period. In Arabic with English interpretation. A rare and genuinely interesting academic event for anyone interested in Qatar’s history.
Audible Shelf: For Visually Impaired Members (August 18)
QNL is hosting a discussion session on the audiobook “As a Man Thinketh” specifically for people with visual impairments, available through Libby and OverDrive. August 18, 5 PM to 6 PM in Arabic.
