Qatar Warns Travellers: Don’t Share Boarding Pass Photos Online
That airport boarding pass photo might seem harmless, but Qatar’s National Cyber Security Agency (NCSA) is warning travellers to think before posting it on social media.
On August 3, 2026, the agency warned that sharing a photo of your boarding pass online could expose personal information and travel details through the QR code printed on the ticket.
Why You Should Hide Your Boarding Pass QR Code
A boarding pass can contain more information than travellers may realise.
According to Qatar’s NCSA, the printed QR code can potentially reveal personal data and details about your journey. The agency therefore advised travellers who want to share their airport moments online to completely conceal their information first.
Cybersecurity experts have long warned that boarding pass barcodes can contain passenger and booking information. Depending on the airline and booking system, exposed details may potentially be used to access additional reservation information.
Posting Your Boarding Pass? Do This First
Before uploading an airport photo to Instagram, Snapchat, TikTok, X or any other social media platform, check what is visible.
Make sure you completely hide the:
- QR code or barcode
- Booking reference or PNR
- Passenger details
- Flight and travel information
- Frequent flyer details, if displayed
Simply covering your name may not be enough if the QR code remains visible.
The message from Qatar’s National Cyber Security Agency is simple: share the travel moment, not your personal information.
