QatarEnergy is planning a major solar power plant in Lebanon, Qatar’s Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, said during a visit to Beirut on 16 October 2026, according to Al Jazeera.

The proposed project comes as Lebanon faces a continuing energy crisis. Speaking alongside Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam, Sheikh Mohammed also reaffirmed Qatar’s support for Lebanon’s sovereignty, stability and recovery.

He called for reconstruction plans that would help displaced people and refugees return home, saying Qatar remained committed to standing by the Lebanese people.

The project is part of a wider agreement to strengthen cooperation between Qatar and Lebanon in energy, investment and electricity infrastructure. QatarEnergy has reached an agreement with France’s TotalEnergies to jointly develop the solar power plant. Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam said the proposed electricity project would be funded and implemented by Qatar without upfront costs to the Lebanese state. The plans are expected to go before Lebanon’s Cabinet.
