Qatar has announced new customs tariffs on selected chicken and vegetables, with the changes affecting chilled chicken, tomatoes, eggplant and zucchini. The new rates will take effect 60 days after publication of the decree in the Official Gazette.
The changes were introduced under Amiri Decree No. 45 of 2026, published in Official Gazette Issue 17 on September 16, 2026.
What Is Changing?
The customs tariff on selected fresh or chilled chicken products will rise to 18%. This includes whole uncut chicken, chilled chicken breasts, thighs and wings.
Selected vegetables will face a 15% customs tariff during specific peak production months.

When Will Qatar’s New Customs Tariffs Start?
The decree was published on September 16, 2026 and states that it will come into force 60 days after publication in the Official Gazette.
This means the new tariff rules are not effective immediately.
Which Chicken Products Are Affected?
The 18% tariff applies to these listed products:
- Fresh or chilled uncut chicken
- Chilled chicken breasts
- Chilled chicken thighs
- Chilled chicken wings
The decree identifies each product using specific HS codes under Qatar’s customs tariff system.
Will Chicken and Vegetable Prices Increase?
The decree changes the customs tariff rate, but it does not itself announce a specific retail price increase.
The final price consumers pay can depend on factors such as import costs, supply, distribution and retailer pricing. Therefore, it would be inaccurate to say that supermarket prices will automatically rise by 18% or 15%.
Why Are Vegetable Tariffs Seasonal?
The 15% tariff on the listed vegetables applies only during the months specified in the decree, which correspond to peak agricultural production periods.
This means the higher rate is not applied to these products throughout the entire year under this decree.
