Qatar’s Ministry of Commerce and Industry has launched the National Adahi Animal Initiative 2026. Sheep available at QAR 1,000 across 6 locations and via the Widam app until May 30. Full guide inside.
Eid Al Adha is days away, and if you are a Qatari citizen looking to get your Adahi animal sorted, Qatar’s government has made it easier and more affordable than ever.
The Ministry of Commerce and Industry, in coordination with the Ministry of Municipality, officially launched the National Initiative to Encourage Local Production and Support Adahi Animals for 1447 AH today, May 21, 2026. The sale runs until the fourth day of Tashreeq, which falls on May 30, 2026.
Here is everything you need to know before you head out or log on.
What Is the Adahi Initiative?
Every year before Eid Al Adha, the Qatari government steps in to make sure citizens can access quality sacrificial animals at fair, subsidized prices. This initiative supports local sheep farmers while also keeping costs manageable for families.
Eid Al Adha, known as the Festival of Sacrifice, commemorates Prophet Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice his son in obedience to Allah’s command. Muslims who can afford it perform Qurbani, the ritual sacrifice of an animal such as a sheep, goat, or cow, with the meat divided into three parts: one for the family, one for relatives and friends, and one for those in need.
Eid Al Adha 2026 in Qatar is expected to fall on May 27, corresponding to 10 Dhul Hijjah 1447 in the Islamic calendar.
The Price: What Will It Cost You?
Both locally bred sheep and imported sheep are priced at QAR 1,000 each under this initiative.
On top of that, slaughtering, cutting, packaging, and loading fees come to a flat QAR 50, broken down as:
- QAR 16 for slaughtering, cutting, and packaging
- QAR 34 for loading
These are paid through separate vouchers at the time of collection.
Who Can Buy?
This initiative is open to Qatari citizens only, with two conditions:
- One Adahi animal per Qatari ID card
- The buyer must be at least 18 years old
Where to Get Your Adahi Animal
The Ministry of Municipality coordinated with Widam Food Company and the Ministry of Commerce and Industry within the framework of an initiative to encourage local sheep production, purchasing breeders’ produce at competitive prices and supporting participants with free concentrated feed.
Adahi animals are available at Widam Food Company’s livestock yards across six locations:
- Al Shamal
- Al Khor
- Umm Salal
- Al Wakrah
- Al Shahaniya
- Abu Nakhla
Can’t make it in person? You can also order directly through the Widam Food Company mobile application with no queues and no stress.
Don’t Need It Slaughtered Right Away?
Here is a detail that many people miss. If you are not ready to slaughter immediately, you have time. Citizens who purchase their Adahi animal under this initiative can use the slaughtering, cutting, and packaging voucher any time up until the end of December 2026.
That gives you flexibility if you are traveling for Eid, hosting a later gathering, or simply want to plan around your schedule.
Why This Initiative Matters
Qatar’s push to support local production is not just about affordability. The Ministry explained that it prepared early for the season by implementing a comprehensive operational plan aimed at ensuring the availability of sacrificial animals in sufficient quantities, enhancing the smooth flow of supply, and balancing supply and demand.
The Ministry of Municipality affirmed that the current stock of local sheep, along with the quantities supplied and imported according to the approved plan for the season, is sufficient to cover market needs during Eid Al Adha.
This means no shortages, no inflated prices from private sellers, and no last-minute scramble.
